At the end of the season, 75% of strawberries from Huelva have been picked but exports have fallen. The harvest is estimated at 245,000 tons. During April the level of exports to European markets fell 15% over the same period in 2011.
Freshuelva believes that this decline is the consequence of climatic conditions in Europe. The weather was not warm in Spring, and did not encourage Europeans to
eat strawberries.
Fortunately, during the first quarter, exports of strawberries from Huelva rose by 19% over the same period last year. France remained the main destination.
Freshuelva predicts that the season will continue until the second half of May.
