Mexico is the leader in avocado production, around 30% of world production comes from Mexico, and exports which, despite the health crisis, have jumped 29.4%.
Luz María de la Mora, Head of Foreign Trade, explained that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused contractions in world trade, Mexican avocado exports in Q1 2020 increased by 29.4% .
Mexican avocado is consumed in 34 countries including the United States, Canada and Japan, which imports 90% of its avocados from Mexico.
According to the latest data from Senasica (Servicio Nacional de Sanidad, Inocuidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria) dating from 2017, production reaches 1,644,000 tonnes of avocados per year.
The state of Michoacán concentrates 84.9% of the volume of national production, the other producing states are Jalisco, Estado de México, Nayarit, Morelos, Guerrero.
