5.4% decrease in vegetable exports value

Between January and May 2022, Chile exported vegetables for $191.8 million, which means a decrease of 5.4% compared to the $202.7 million achieved in the same period of 2021, according to data from the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa).
The main destinations were the United States, Mexico, Holland and Brazil.
Tomato exports constituted 31.4% of the total value and 43.2% of the volume of Chilean horticultural exports. 94% of this volume was sent in puree presentation.
Exports of this fruit in the analyzed period decreased by 6% in volume, but increased by 17.9% in value compared to the same term of 2021, going from $51 million to $60.2 million.
Followed by garlic, with 12.7% of the total value exported in the period January-May 2022, constituting 10.9% of the total volume of vegetable shipments. 99% of this product was exported fresh, mainly to Mexico.
Both value and volume of garlic exports in the period analyzed showed a contraction of 26.6% and 8.8%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2021.

Onion is the horticultural product that increased the most in volume exported from January to May 2022, going from 25,700 to 41,000 tons.
