Certified shipments nearly tripled between 2019 and 2025, supported by stronger phytosanitary controls and growing demand from key buyers.
Peruvian ginger continues to gain space in international trade, with certified exports reaching 44,482 tonnes at the close of 2025, according to MIDAGRI and SENASA.
The figure marks strong growth compared with 2019, when certified shipments stood at 16,785 tonnes. Peru’s ginger now reaches 53 markets, with the United States, the Netherlands, Canada, Spain, Chile, the United Kingdom and Germany among the main destinations.
The results were highlighted during the III International Ginger Convention – Pichanaqui 2026, where authorities underlined the crop’s growing role in the Selva Central economy. Junín remains at the centre of the production chain, supporting thousands of farming families and helping position ginger as Peru’s twelfth most exported plant product.
MIDAGRI said the expansion depends not only on production growth, but also on plant health, traceability and food safety. Through SENASA, Peru is strengthening phytosanitary certification, packing plant inspections and control systems required by importing countries.
For producers and exporters, maintaining access to demanding markets will depend on consistent compliance with sanitary standards across the supply chain.
