Hard-discount and cash-and-carry formats now account for more than half of the group’s food retail revenue.
InRetail’s food retail business posted a strong second quarter in Peru, with revenue rising 15.3% year on year to S/3.54 billion (US$1.05 billion).
Same-store sales increased 11.6%, supported by solid performance across both food and non-food categories. The company highlighted particularly strong trading at its hard-discount and cash-and-carry formats, operated through Mass and Makro. Together, these formats generated 51% of Food Retail revenue during the quarter.
Store network expands
The group continued to expand its store network. By the end of June, InRetail operated 1,742 food retail outlets in Peru, including 1,602 hard-discount stores, 113 supermarkets and 27 cash-and-carry locations.
Adjusted EBITDA in the division rose 8.6% to S/296 million (US$88.2 million), although the margin slipped from 8.9% to 8.4%. InRetail linked the pressure partly to higher logistics costs at Mass and expenses associated with new store openings.
