China imports 3 times more Mexican avocados

More and more Mexican avocados are imported by China where their volume represented 9.53% in 2020 but 22.45% in 2021.
According to Chinese customs data, during the period January to August 2021, the country imported 24,670 tonnes of avocados, of which 5,539 tonnes came from Mexico. The share of Mexican avocados therefore represented 22.45% of the total volume of avocados imported by China over the period.
This volume imported by China over this period represents an increase of + 207.04% for Mexican avocados. In fact, in 2020 over the same period January to August, China imported 18,912 tonnes of avocados, of which 1,804 tonnes came from Mexico. The share of Mexican avocados represented 9.53% of the total volume of avocados imported by China over the period.
In China, the growth of incomes, the change in eating habits, the development of international logistics have made it possible to provide consumers with exotic products at reasonable prices. An avocado cost 15 to 20 CNY (2.35 to 3.13 USD) 5 years ago and only 10 CNY (1.56 USD) today.
Imports of avocados into China have increased considerably, from just 2 tonnes in 2010 to nearly 44,000 tonnes in 2018 and then to around 30,000 tonnes in 2020.
