Maasvlakte 2, the extension of the Rotterdam port will soon be operational
After five years of work, the authority of the Rotterdam Port has received the delivery of Maasvlakte 2. This first phase of the construction included 11 km of dikes, 24 km of roads, 14 km of railways, 3.5 km of quays, 560 hectares of ponds, 700 hectares of new industrial spaces.
This gigantic project designed to increase the capacity of Rotterdam port required 240 million m3 of sand, 20,000 blocks of 40 tons, 150,000 tons of clay, 300,000 m3 of concrete. Delivered on time, within budget (€ 1.9 billion) and required specifications the Port Authority indicated.
The final arrangements are in process, the authority of the Rotterdam Port of Maasvlakte plans the opening to the first two ships from May 22.
