The Japanese giant of agribusiness Kagome launches a new research center dedicated to the tomato in Portugal.
HIT Portuguese group, majority owned by the Japanese multinational Kagome, announced an investment of € 1.5 million for the new research center in the region of Rinatejo. Extension of the structure of existing research in Nasushiobara (Japan), the Portuguese website is the first investment outside of Japan, in the sector of ??research and development for the Kagome group.
Kagome, a multinational group based in Japan, is a specialist in tomatoes and tomato products. It produces, between other of ketchup for McDonalds.
Kagome sees Portugal as an important source of supply of tomatoes. The country has managed to increase its exports to Japan by+ 37% in recent years. Portuguese tomato production for 2014 could reach 1.6 million tonnes.
