China Blueberry Committee forms to push for variety protection

The main objective of the Blueberry Committee is to establish strong measures to protect intellectual property rights and promote balanced growth in the industry.
Blueberry production and trade in China have grown significantly in recent years, driven by the accelerated expansion of cultivation areas. However, this development faces a major challenge: intellectual property protection of blueberry varieties, due to frequent infringements that hinder innovation and sustainable progress in the sector.
To address this issue, the Blueberry Committee of the China Chamber of Commerce for the Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Products and Animal By-Products (CFNA) was established in November 2024. The announcement took place during the China Blueberry 2024 International Conference, held in Yuxi, Yunnan Province, and organized by CFNA in collaboration with the China International Fruit Expo.
The main objective of the Blueberry Committee is to establish sound measures to protect intellectual property rights and promote balanced growth in the industry. In this context, the Committee, together with leading companies in the industry, officially launched the "Initiative for the Protection of Intellectual Property of Blueberry Varieties". This initiative seeks to involve all market players in the active protection of varieties, promoting practices that ensure sustainable development for the sector.
