SATI forecasts a 2016/17 crop totaling 64.5 million cartons (4.5 kg).
The weather conditions being more favorable than last season suggest normal volumes for the rest of the season, according to SATI (South African Table Grape Industry), which predicts a 2016/17 crop of 64.5 million cartons (4.5 kg).
The 2016/17 season therefore appears to be returning to normal for the sector, which experienced many uncertainties last season due to the drought and heat that affected the crops.
This season the climatic conditions are largely favorable. Hot days and cool nights allowed good fruit development. Very little or no rainfall in the 5 production areas during harvest. Quality and taste, characteristics of South African table grapes, are estimated to be even higher this season.
