In a third estimate of exports for the 2020-21 season, made by the Chilean grape sector, there are estimated shipments of 64.582.046 boxes of 8.2 kilos each, according to the President of ASOEX, Ronald Bown Fernández.
The association made a better evaluation of its table grape exports after the frontal system that brought a high level of rainfall and hail in several producing regions. Today, they foresee more than 64 million boxes for the year 2020-21, a decrease of 12% compared to exports of the fruit in 2019-20, and at the same time, it means a fall of 3% compared to the second estimate made in February, when they forecast over 66 million boxes.
Likewise, this third forecast is 22% lower (17.8 million boxes less) than the first estimate for the month of December 2020, made before the rains in January of the current year, with estimated export volume of 82.309.644 boxes of 8.2 kilos.
This new estimate is based on the information presented by 38 companies, which represent 59% of the total exported the previous season (2019-2020).
Regarding varieties, they detailed that the main drops are forecast in the white varieties. While it is expected to export 14.209.141 boxes of grapes of green varieties; 5.656.395 boxes of black grapes; 28.500.373 boxes of red grapes, and 16.216.138 boxes of the Red Globe variety.
