Peru: Three products, three target markets

Peru’s fruit and vegetable exporters have set three goals for this year’s FRUIT LOGISTICA: expand the recently captured market for avocados in the USA, satisfy the rapidly growing demand for table grapes in Asia and Russia, and open the market for Peruvian pomegranates in Europe.
"Last year we achieved export growth of 20-25% for almost all products", says William Arteaga from the export promotion organisation Promperu. Only asparagus – the country’s number one export product – registered a loss following the crisis year 2008.
In 2010, the export of asparagus (fresh and processed) reached USD 650 million, with Europe and the USA each purchasing half of the export volume.
