The potato harvest is nearing completion in most provinces of Canada except Quebec. According to reports already made, the total volume will be significantly lower than last year.
According to United Potato Growers of Canada, the potato harvest is almost over, with the exception of the province of Quebec. A few regions benefited from favorable weather conditions allowing harvest to be completed earlier than expected, but others experienced unfavorable conditions which weighed on yield.
This year the area seeded reached 315,565 acres (127,705 hectares), excluding Quebec, a decrease of 0.9% compared to 2019. Last year, Canadian potato production reached 4.8 million tons.
Reports from various provinces seem to indicate a drop of about 7,000,000 hundredweight (317,517 tonnes) from the 2019 harvest. The national statistics agency continues to collect yield data from potato growers.
