Since its inception in 1972, TOMRA has become an innovative company offering a wide range of sensor-based solutions that contribute to an industrial revolution towards resource sustainability.
TOMRA was founded on 1 April 1972 in Asker (Norway) by the brothers Petter and Tore Planke. Inventors of the automated machine requested by a local trader to sort and retrieve empty bottles for recycling. By the end of the year TOMRA had installed 29 machines throughout Norway and this success had attracted much interest abroad.
Quickly TOMRA diversified its offer and extended its solutions to different sectors. Leading a provider of optical sorting technologies for a wide range of materials. In 2016 the company achieved a record turnover of around 710 million euros, with 90,000 systems installed in more than 80 markets around the world.
TOMRA focuses on 2 main areas of activity: SOLUTIONS COLLECTION (resale and recovery of materials) and SORTING SOLUTIONS (recycling, extraction, sorting of food products). Always aiming for the optimal productivity of resources.
