AEON looks to become leading retailer in China
MD
The AEON Group, Japan’s leading supermarket change, has huge expansion plans in China.
In an interview with the Financial Times Jerry Black, vice president of the group, announced that the planned expansion in China is to reach at least 2,000 outlets in the next decade. These projects would allow the AEON group to catch up and surpass Western rivals such as Wal-Mart and Carrefour.
With consumption is no longer increasing in Japan because of an aging population, AEON is looking for a vehicle for international growth. The group aims to generate 50% of its earnings outside its home market from 2020, compared to just 10% today.
