Much more famous for its cold winter than for fruit, Hokkaido (43 ° North ) is considered a growing area of mangoes.The idea goes back to Mitsumune Murata when a few years ago he did not know what to do with a plot of terrrain owned by the city of Teshikaga . Plot that includes a source of hot water. Instead of making a spa he had the idea to innovate and try the cultivation of mangoes.
After the construction of greenhouses and the establishment of pipe, the final installation allows to benefit from a temperature of 25 ° C during the day and 20 ° C overnight , even if the outside temperature falls to -20 ° C.A first batch of mangoes were harvested in 2013, this year the firm expects to ship 20,000 mangoes and 80,000 in 3 years.
