Fruit Attraction 2026 invites China and the UAE as guest countries
The upcoming edition of IFEMA Madrid will feature China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as guest importing countries to promote business connections and negotiations.
China is a very limited market for both Spanish and EU producers. In 2025, Spanish exports of fruits and vegetables totaled only 1,784 metric tons, representing 0.01 of the total volume exported by Spain. The situation is similar at the EU level: the 27 EU member states exported only 10,084 metric tons of fresh fruits and vegetables to China.
In recent years, there has been progress in opening the Chinese market to Spanish fruits and vegetables. Currently, citrus fruits, stone fruits (peaches and plums), grapes, persimmons, almonds, and cherries can be exported. Protocols have also been approved for dried figs and pistachios, but the necessary procedures to allow their export have not yet been finalized.
40,441 metric tons to the UAE
The United Arab Emirates has been one of the main non-European destination countries for Spanish fruit and vegetable exports. In 2021, 40,441 metric tons were exported—a volume very similar to that of 2022—but there was subsequently a sharp decline, with shipments in 2025 totaling 13,621 metric tons.
