Store remodelling is giving greater weight to food and fresh categories as the supermarket group expands in Peru.
Grupo Falabella says fresh categories are supporting Tottus’ wider growth, while its Peruvian food business posts double-digit gains.
Its new store layouts are strengthening food and perishable categories and helping lift sales per square metre. Across the supermarket business, revenue increased 10.7% year on year in the second quarter, with perishables among the categories supporting growth.
Peru outpaced Chile during the period. Tottus revenue in the country rose 11.1% in local currency, while same-store sales increased 8.7%. Sales from the food segment also grew 11.1%.
The retailer is also continuing to expand its lower-price Precio Uno format in Peru. Revenue from the format increased 14.8% year on year, while same-store sales rose 10.7%. A new store opened in Tungasuca during the quarter.
Tottus had 92 stores in Peru at the end of the quarter, covering just over 301,500 sq m of selling space.
