Guatemala: 1st Semester 2018 presents increase in exports in Fruits & Vegetables
Reports show that during the first semester of 2018, the official figures presented an increase of 15% in the sales abroad of fruits and 23% in legumes and vegetables.
Data from the Banco de Guatemala indicate that "The sale of fresh, dried or frozen fruit reached US $ 197.6 million from January to June, US $ 26.1 million more than in the same period of 2017”
Despite this increase reported by official statistics, exporters in the agricultural sector say that this rebound has not manifested in all products equally. The manager of the agricultural sector of the Guatemalan Association of Exporters (Agexport), Carlos Salazar, told Elperiodico.com.gt that "They have had a growth in volume, but not in the price of the products they sell in Chinese peas, whose main buyer is the United States, sales have grown a little by volume, but not necessarily by prices.
