Excellent start to the year for Turkish citrus exports. Over the first 5 months of 2020, the value of citrus fruits exported increased by almost 30%.
According to the Turkish National Citrus Council, over the period January to May 2020, Turkey exported 635,000 tonnes of citrus fruit for a value of $326 million (290 million EUR). Or an increase of 29.37% compared to the $252 million USD (224 million Euro) and 586,000 tonnes of citrus fruits exported last year for the same period.
During this 5-month period, grapefruits ranked first among citrus exports, followed by mandarins and oranges.
Regarding destinations, Russia remains the largest importer of Turkish citrus fruit with 197,000 tonnes of fruit over the period.
Russia is followed by Ukraine, Iraq, Romania and Poland. Exports to EU countries also increased, with + 171% to the Netherlands and + 50% to Germany, for example.
