A very satisfactory season for the production which continues its expansion

Quebec is one of the most important regions in Canada for fruit production. It is still too early to make a complete assessment but the season has been very satisfactory, especially as regards to strawberries and raspberries.

 

 

 

Despite a late start to the season, strawberry summer production was about 15% higher than usual. According to some professionals, summer strawberries have had an exceptional year. The strawberry season in Quebec continues until October.

 

 

 

The season for raspberries was also very satisfying. To better combat the weather, the last 2 summer seasons have been difficult with very hot and very wet weather, many producers adopt the techniques of cultivation above ground. This makes it possible to cultivate more varieties of raspberries, even those that are not adapted to the climate in Quebec and especially to increase the yield.

 

 

 

In the coming years, raspberry growers expect to be able to compete, during the summer, with imports that still account for the majority of raspberries consumed in Quebec.
