The main destinations of the Brazilian melon are still European countries, in particular the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and Italy but North America (United States, Canada) increased its demand by 120 %.
In Brazil, the exports of melons are very satisfactory, after the month of October, the month of November records another progression. The volume of melons exported reached 39,000 tonnes during the month, 26% more than the same period last year, according to Secex (Secretaria de Comércio Exterior). Revenues also increased by almost 20% to reach $ 25 million.
In November, the main destinations for Brazilian melon were still European countries, in particular the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and Italy which, together, consumed around 92% of the total volume exported, according to Secex. . While the share exported to North America is low (3%), shipments to the United States and Canada increased by 120% in November compared with the same month last year.
This increase would be due to the vagaries of the weather which impacted production in Mexico, the main supplier of these countries. Like Guatemala and Honduras, Brazil was able to increase its shipments to the two North American countries.
