How to produce 25% of American fruit & veg with less water ?

After 3 years of low precipitations, the Californian Governor: Arnold Schwazenegger declares urgency state.

Urban inhabitants will e urged to reduce their water consumption by 20 %. The agricultural water consumption will also be reduced.

 

Already a lot of farmers located in California have decided to leave their land free of production because of water shortage. As a result not less than 95.000 workers have losen their jobs.

 

California is indeed first producer of the States for agricultural products, with cultivated land of 300.000 hectares (approx: 750,000 acres). One forecasts  a loss of US $ 2 billion in 2009, what would lead to an increase of food goods.

 

California produces 25% of fruit & veg grown in the States.
