Recently, new varieties (Red Globe, Arra-32, Crimson, Fantasy, Sudhakar) are starting to replace the more common varieties (Thomson, Falme).
In India, in the state of Maharashtra, the district of Nashik is a region producing table grapes but exports represent only 8% of total production.

Maharashtra Farmers-Producers Organization organized various workshops with grape producers. Experts have detailed the actions to be taken to increase the export of grapes. Producers need to put more emphasis on quality.

It is necessary to grow varieties that have a huge demand in European and non-European countries. In addition, the size of the fruit should be between 16 and 18mm.

With a journey time of 35 to 45 days to various European countries, the shelf life is crucial. Another important subject, marketing, exporters must know the export markets and the competition.

For the current season, as of February 10, the Nashik district has exported 1,458 containers containing 19,367 tonnes of grapes to European countries. For the same period last year, the district exported 1,853 containers with 24,763 tonnes of grapes.
