Diversifying export markets for Spanish fruit and vegetables is proving difficult. With 96% of total exports, Europe remains the main destination, those to non-European markets fell by 14.5%.
FEPEX, on the basis of data from the Directorate General of Customs, announces that Spanish exports to EU member states as well as to Norway and Switzerland represented, until August, a total of 9.727 billion EUR. This represents a growth of 9% compared to the same period of 2019.
During the first 8 months of the year, exports to the EU amounted to 9.388 billion EUR, 8% more than in the same period of 2019. With strong growth in the top destinations like Germany (+ 13%) and France (+ 10%). After the EU, the first destinations for Spanish exports are Norway and Switzerland, which are growing by 29%.
But during the same period, shipments to countries outside Europe fell by 14.5% to reach 347 million EUR. Decline recorded towards the 2 of the main extra-European destinations: Brazil (-46%) for a total of 35.3 million EUR and Canada (-27%) for a total of 35 million EUR.
