Special Fruit and Bfruit strengthen their partnership
Special fruit (global importer and distributor of a wide, yet specialised, assortment of fruits, vegetables, and exotic specialities) and Bfruit (with its headquarters in Guimarães, currently unites over 150 Portuguese delicate fruit and kiwi growers) entered into a strategic alliance in 2016.
Since 2016 both partners increases in the production and commercialisation of the popular raspberry varieties, Kwanza and Kweli, grown by the Dutch breeder, Advanced Berry Breeding (ABB). The raspberries acreage doubled and the other berries, like blueberries and red currants, have also gotten increased acreage.
Until recently, Bfruit covered the Southern European market, while Special Fruit took care of sales to the Northern European market. As a result of the scale increase, which has resulted in enormous developments, Special Fruit provide the entire European market with high-quality berries all year-round that are grown in the framework of this partnership, starting April 17. Bfruit will be managing the sales in Portugal and in non-European markets. In addition to that, Bfruit will also entirely focus on the full import flow of Portuguese berries, other fruits and vegetables grown for Special Fruit. In this regard, they will be responsible for the quality control, crop management, and the entire administrative and operational follow-up of Portuguese growers. Both parties want to unite around 400ha of Kwanza, Kweli and of other new exclusive varieties by 2020 that are already being tested both in production and commercialization and are proving to be unique and a strong bet in the markets.
