Pumpkin: the world record is European

The Belgian producer Matthias Willemijns won the competition and beat the world record with a pumpkin of 1190.50 kg (2,624.6 lbs).
Every autumn the Festival of the Pumpkin and squash takes place in the German city of Ludwigsburg, near Stuttgart. With sculpture contest, the most awaited moment is the championship of the giant pumpkin.
This year, the Belgian Mathias Willemijns won with a pumpkin of 1190.50 kg (2624.6 lbs), winning the world record for the heaviest pumpkin. First price is 1,500 euros and 10,000 euros bonus for the record. The winner vegetable will be "broken" at the end of the Festival and seeds will be put for sale.
At this kind of conours, the US producers have long triumphed but European manufacturers are also starting to excel. In 2014 is a Swiss producer who beat the world record at the Ludwigsburg Festival with a vegetable of 1054 kg.
The SOGPG Association (Southern Ohio Giant Pumpkin Growers) giant pumpkin growers in Ohio (USA) has warmly congratulate the winner in 2016.
