Pistachio in Greece seems to have escaped the crisis and the harvest is promising with increased external.

The proportion of farmers in Greece increased from 11.3% in 2008 to 12.5% in 2010 as The economic crisis seems to have pushed the Greeks back to the land.

In the difficult current environment, one product seems to have escaped the gloom: the pistachio. Greece is the sixth largest producer of pistachios with 9,000 tons produced. The island of Aegina, just 40 minutes from the port of Athens, is one of the most productive. The harvest this year, which will take place in late August is very promising, according to farmers. A local producer believes that his crop will reach 30 tons this year, while last year it amounted to 8 tons.

External demand is increasing and exports are increasing to the EU and also China and the United States.
