The value of French imports of agricultural and food products has doubled in 20 years. In France, the area under cultivation is decreasing but the demand for fruit juices and exotic fruits is steadily increasing. The Vietnam Trade Office sees export potential for Vietnamese products.
According to a study by the Vietnam Trade Office, in France imports of agricultural and food products meet 20% of domestic consumption. The value of imports has doubled over the past 20 years, from 28 billion euros in 2000 to 56 billion euros in 2019. France imports many Vietnamese products (vegetables, fruits, organic products) but this volume could further increase.
Because the demand for fruit juices and exotic fruits such as avocado, mango, and dragon fruit is steadily increasing. And because the demand for organic food is high. France is the 2nd consumer market for organic agricultural products in Europe, but the country only manages to satisfy 67% of domestic demand.
This French demand will remain strong because in the country the area under cultivation is decreasing and consumers are more and more fond of exotic fruits and organic products.
According to the Vietnam Trade Office, Vietnamese exporters should seek to take advantage of the European Union (EU)-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and ensure stable quality of their fresh agricultural products. To penetrate the French market, the Vietnam Trade Office advises Vietnamese companies to participate in specialized fairs and various promotional activities organized with distribution networks.
