Threat of excess volumes for Mexican rambutan if the United States reduces its imports.
Producers in the Soconusco region (Chiapas state, southern Mexico) are looking for new marketing channels for their rambutan.
The Soconusco region produces rambutan, an exotic fruit that is becoming very popular in various markets. Last year the region exported 7,500 tons of rambutan to the United States. Rumors of restrictions on Mexican products in the US market are pushing professionals to explore new markets.
Nationally first, because the Soconusco rambutan is not marketed in all other Mexican states and consumers do not all know this exotic fruit. Then, internationally, in particular to neighboring countries such as Guatemala, which is its main market with 60% of the volumes produced, but also in other countries of Central and South America.
