Brazilian fruit exports exceed $1 billion

The year 2021 was a good one for the Brazilian fruit sector, which for the first time exceeded one billion dollars in foreign sales. Exports grew by 18% in volume and 20% in value. Mango was the most exported fruit in 2021.
According to ABRAFRUTAS (Associação Brasileira dos Produtores Exportadores de Frutas e Derivados) in 2021 exports accounted for USD 1.060 billion in value, +20% on the previous year. Brazil exported 1.2 million tonnes of fruit, up 18% on the previous year.
Mango was the most exported fruit in 2021 with about 272,500 tonnes shipped and a turnover of US$248 million (20% of total sales), ahead of melon with US$165 million (14% of sales), grapes with US$155.9 million (13% of sales) and nuts with US$151.9 million (13%).
The best performances came from apples (+79% in value and +58% in volume) and grapes (+55% in volume and +43% in value). Papaya, lemon and melon also recorded satisfactory growth.
ABRAFRUTAS, the Brazilian association of producers-exporters of fruit and fruit products, aims to represent and promote Brazilian fruit agriculture on the international market. The association has about 70 fruit exporting producers among its members, which together account for about 85% of the total volume of fresh fruit exported by Brazil.
