The COVID-19 pandemic, which affects more countries every day, has greatly reduced trade and the number of ships at sea.
According to ALPHALINER analyzes, the containment measures decided by many countries have reduced demand and consequently the number of ships at sea. Unused container ships reached the volume of 2.46 million TEU in early March, and this capacity cumulative pending affection should total more than 3 million TEU in the coming weeks.
For these analysts, the high season which extends in shipping from April to October, is not going to unfold without difficulty. Several shipping companies have already announced capacity reductions or service suspensions, particularly between Asia and Northern Europe.
