Costa Rica is the world's No. 1 exporter of pineapples

Costa Rica has increased its revenues from pineapple exports by 550% in a decade.

According to figures of PROCOMER (Promotora del Comercio Exterior de Costa Rica) the fresh pineapple exports generated 791 million dollars in 2012. This amount of exports in 2012 shows an increase of +550% compared to 121 million dollars achieved by the exports of the year 2000.

Costa Rica tops the world ranking of pineapple exporters. PROCOMER specifies that in 2000, Costa Rica exported to 16 countries, in 2006 to 32 countries, in 2012 to 42 countries. Last year the main destinations were the United States (47%), the Netherlands (15%), the UK (11%), Belgium (8%).
