There will not be enough vanilla to meet global demand, alert industry professionals.
Madagascar, which supplies 80% of the world's vanilla production, has been impacted by the Enawo cyclone, which has caused heavy damage.
Tropical Enawo cyclone swept through Madagascar and the record is heavy. Nearly one hundred people died and more than 400,000 people were affected. The material balance is also considerable, the National Association of Vanilla Exporters estimates that 30% of the country's plantations are devastated and in some regions 95% of the crops have been destroyed.
These destruction will weigh on world supplies and further accentuate the upward price trend. Professionals alert that it will take between 3 and 5 years to recover the same volumes as before the cyclone.
The official calendar of the 2017 harvest is maintained. The campaign for the Diana and Sofia (coastal zone) regions will open on the 15th of May, the South-East region on the 7th of June, the eastern region on the 15th of June, the Sava and Analanjirofo regions on the 7th of July.
