Exports of organic bananas could grow 5% this year and some of its markets have more potential for growth.
With the growing demand for organic bananas worldwide, Peruvian exports could increase by 5% this year considers Idexcam-CCL (Instituto de Investigacion y Desarrollo de Comercio Exterior of the Cámara de Comercio de Lima) and further progress.

In the last 2 years, organic banana exports have increased to $148.5 million in 2017 and $167 million in 2018. The main destinations are Europe, which concentrates up to 70% of shipments and the United States . For this year, the trend will continue and the progression will reach 5%.

But other markets have even greater growth potential. These markets are Canada, Japan, South Korea and China, where exports generated only $7 million. Last year, Canada received only 1% of Peruvian exports of organic bananas, Japan 3%, South Korea 6% and China small shipments.

In these countries consumers have purchasing power and the desire to buy healthy organic products. Moreover these countries have trade agreements with Peru, so that exports are not subject to customs duties. Also, Idexcam-CCL advises the sector to be more interested in these markets which could allow a new expansion for Peruvian organic bananas.
