In Ireland, a succession of heavy rainfalls followed by hot weather affected production of several agricultural products.
Local media quoted agricultural consultant Dr. Richard Hackett as predicting a shortage of carrots, turnips, lettuce and possibly potatoes.
Explaining that the succession of varied weather conditions has affected the proper development and growth of produce. February was very dry, then March and April were very wet, causing a delay in planting, followed by another very dry spell.
Future shortages could be solved by increasing imports. But the usual countries that supply Ireland, such as Spain and the United Kingdom, are also experiencing various problems (drought, low yields, labor, etc.) that are impacting their production and export volumes.
