Carrot was No. 1 Australian vegetable in 2017 with a volume of 110,000 tonnes.
Australia is benefiting from sustained demand from its main foreign markets to increase its exports in volumes and value.
According to AUSVEG fresh vegetable exports have increased by 61% in value over the last 5 years. In 2017 Australian exports of vegetables reached 252 million AUSD.
Its main markets being Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Carrots, onions and potatoes account for more than 60% of the total value of vegetable exports and more than 80% of the volume of vegetable exports. Carrots continued to be the best vegetable exported in 2017, increasing to 110,000 tonnes worth AUD 91 million.
The sector, thanks to its continuous development, is on track to reach the ambitious goal of a 40% growth to AUD 315 million of turnover for fresh vegetable exports in 2020.
