Brazil is on the verge of authorizing imports of Egyptian citrus fruits. Procedures are at an advanced stage and official authorization is expected soon.
According to ANBA (Brazil-Arab News Agency) which recounts the words of Mr. Cesar Simas Teles, agricultural attaché of the Brazilian Embassy in Cairo, the only step pending is the official publication in Brazil. "Brazil is the first country in America to allow citrus fruit from Egypt to enter its market," he said.
Egypt plans to export oranges, tangerines and limes to Brazil. The current 2.5% tax on Egyptian citrus fruits will be eliminated by September 2020.
Last year Brazil imported 30,655 tonnes of oranges worth $27.79 million and 4,024 tonnes of lemons worth $4.04 million.
