The supply of fruits and vegetables exceeds demand. No shortage to fear and no increase in prices during the month of Ramadam (Photo: ecoactu.ma).
In Morocco the Ministry of Agriculture clarified that the national market will normally be supplied with agricultural and food products. No shortage to fear.

Usually the month of Ramadan is accompanied by an increase in demand for several food products. This year, with the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, Moroccan consumers feared a sharp rise in prices on certain products. The Ministry of Agriculture has assured that professionals in the agricultural sector are mobilized to ensure a normal and regular supply of the market.

With regard to vegetables, production will cover consumption needs during the months of April and May. Thus for tomatoes, the needs are estimated at 90,000 tonnes while availability will reach 120,000 tonnes. For onions, the estimated needs between 80,000 and 90,000 tonnes will be covered.

As for fruits, oranges posted higher prices than the previous year because of a drop in production. Other fruits, such as apples, display stable prices due to a good level of availability. The range of fruits will quickly expand with the arrival in production of watermelons, melons, red fruits and stone fruits.
