China's Prime Minister has proposed a China-Mercosur trade agreement during a visit to Argentina.
At a meeting with Cristina Kirchner, President of Argentina and videoconference with Rousseff of Brazil and Uruguay's Jose Mujica, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao proposed the idea of ??a free trade agreement between China and Mercosur countries.
China is ready to start negotiations to boost trade between the partners.
In 2011, Chinese exports to Mercosur totaled $ 48.45 billion, up 34% over the previous year. Imports from Mercosur totaled $ 51.03 billion. China hopes to double trade by 2016.
Mercosur brings together Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay as full members and Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru are associate members.
