Fruits and vegetable prices increase following embargo
MD
Russia has banned imports of European vegetables for fear of the epidemic but the EU believes that this is contrary to WTO rules.
In response, Russia accuses the Europeans of being unprofessional and irresponsible. The Russian ban should continue until the discovery of the exact cause of this deadly epidemic. The import ban will weigh on prices.
For some products, prices have declined as domestic production meets demand. But this will last only for a limited time. For most products the price is already rising rapidly and will continue to rise.
According to the Russian newspaper Ria Novesta, in all distribution channels, prices of fruits and vegetables have increased. Russian importers are turning to Asia, Africa and Latin America to replace their European suppliers.
