Switzerland imports massively of Spain and Italy.
While the actions multiply in the country for the promotion of fruits and vegetables of season produced locally, figures given by the federal Administration of customs indicate that more than 13.000 tons of strawberries were imported in Switzerland last year.
Which is a record number of imports because the average was between 10 and 12.000 tons during the last nine years.
The strawberries of Spain arrive in head, with more than 7000 tons which is more half of the imports. While previous years most of the imported strawberries came from Italy.
Calculated per person, it makes an average consumption of one and a half kilo of strawberries of import and 750 grams of Swiss strawberries. The local production which represents 5500 tons will begin at the end of May.
