Increase of 25% for the export of bananas towards Europe

Dominican producers are satisfied of the 25% jump in the export of bananas towards Europe.
The country’s leading banana producers announced a 25% jump in exports to Europe to more than 58 million dollars in the first half and expect to top US$160 million in 2010.
Last year producers exported to Europe 280,000 metric tons of bananas and expect to reach more than 300,000 by year end.
“The banana sector’s perspective is very good, very encouraging; we’re going through one on the best moments regarding banana exports and production” said Luis Bonilla, a Northwest Valverde province banana producer.
