FEFPEB (European Federation of Wooden Pallet and Packaging Manufacturers) estimates that the costs of wooden pallets and packaging will continue to remain at a high level.
“Having reached historic highs, raw material costs have fallen slightly in recent months. However, national associations across Europe are reporting that high energy, transport and labor prices continue to have a significant impact on the prices paid" declared Fons Ceelaert, general secretary of the FEFPEB.
European industrial indices indicate that the costs of raw materials used for manufacturing, pallet wood and steel for nails, fell during the 3rd quarter of 2022.
But the cost of energy and fuel pushes up prices for logistics, and for heat treatment and kiln drying of wood. As well as transport costs (+5.4 index points in the 2nd quarter and +19.6 index points compared to the same quarter last year) and hourly labor costs (+4.0 % in the euro zone in the 2nd quarter and +4.4% compared to the same quarter of last year).
