Freshfel Europe launches the new digital campaign for 2021 International Year of Fruits and Vegetables
Freshfel Europe, the European Fresh Produce Association that representing the interests of the fresh fruit and vegetables supply chain in Europe and beyond, is launching a yearlong digital campaign #SpeakUp4FruitVeg to celebrate and support the 2021 International Year of Fruits and Vegetables, which has been designated by the UN General Assembly.
The new campaign will cover a wide range of policy areas that are part of Freshfel Europe's work in Brussels to strengthen financial and technical support for the sector. The digital campaign aims at EU decision-makers, primarily Members of the European Parliament, European Commission officials and representatives of Member States, to boost support for the fresh fruit and vegetable sector in all policy areas in the shift under the Green Deal towards sustainable and healthy diets.
The #SpeakUp4FruitVeg campaign will be the focus of the Association's activities throughout the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables and will be featured on Freshfel Europe's social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn).
According to assertion of Philippe Binard, Freshfel Europe General Delegate, their new digital campaign builds on the work of the Association to strengthen support for the sector in all areas in the renewed movement towards sustainable and healthy diets across Europe since the publication of the European Green Deal at the end of 2019. “With low environmental-impact production and a high daily consumption recommendation the fruit and vegetable sector is best placed to help consumers reduce their food consumption impact on the environment and simultaneously better their overall health and wellbeing,” he added. Currently, the average daily consumption of fruit and vegetables in the EU per capita is 363.77g, which is below the WHO minimum recommended daily consumption of 400g.
Freshfel Europe is a membership association that has over 200 members, including both companies and associations, which have an interest in the European fresh fruit and vegetable sector. Freshfel Europe's members are found throughout Europe and along the supply chain from producers to wholesalers, logistics, traders and retailers.
