Ailimpo estimates lemon production at 870,000 tons

The Association inter Ailimpo estimates that Spain will produce 870,000 tons of lemons next season (2011/2012).

This first estimate was obtained with data from control samples in the orchards. This production of 870,000 tons will be down 6.4% compared to the production of the previous season.

Ailimpo describes this as "normal" in terms of tonnage and "exceptional" in terms of quality.

The harvest will begin in October with the main destination of exports as the European Union. Intense competition is expected with the lemons from Turkey especially strong in the markets of Eastern Europe.
