October marked a significant rise in Brazil's fruit exports, including key products like citrus peel and melons, which positively impacted the nation's trade balance. Brazil's export revenue for that month reached $164.56 million, a 45% increase compared to September, according to data from Comex Stat. Meanwhile, imports rose by 17% to $108.94 million. Despite these gains, the year-to-date trade surplus stands at $45.24 million — its lowest in a decade. Overall, fruit exports totaled $907.56 million for the year, with imports reaching $862.32 million.
Lemons, limes, mangoes, and melons played a pivotal role in this recovery, accounting for more than 60% of total export earnings up to October 2024. However, grape exports faced a decline due to production challenges in the São Francisco Valley. Despite this, the Brazilian fruit export sector demonstrated resilience and adaptability.
European markets were the primary destination for Brazilian fruits, receiving 76% of the exports, followed by North America with 12%. The remaining shipments were directed to South America and Asia. Looking ahead, experts remain optimistic about maintaining a positive trade balance for Brazilian fruit exports in the months to come.
