Pears: stable volumes and excellent quality

At a meeting the OI PERA Coordination Committee presented its forecast data for the 2018/19 pear season.

 

 

The analysis of data prepared by CSO ITALY shows an upcoming campaign in line with the previous year, with about 741 400 tonnes planned.

 

 

 

Production of the Abate variety, which accounts for 46% of Italian production, is expected to reach 326,300 tonnes, a modest + 1% compared to 2017. For the other varieties: Carmen (+ 1%), Santa Maria (+ 4%), William (+ 2%) and Kaiser (+ 3%); only the productions of the Conference (-3%) and Decana (-3%) varieties will decline due to the decrease in surface area.

 

 

 

The quality is considered excellent with average calibres higher than those recorded in 2017.
