Rain is causing uncertainty in potato harvest in Galicia

Farmers in A Limia and other affected areas hope to finish harvesting before new rains.
Heavy rainfall has impacted crops and harvests across the Iberian Peninsula, including Xinzo de Limia in Galicia. While the weather has temporarily improved, the potato harvest remains uncertain. Today, the harvest is estimated to be between 50% and 60% complete, according to a farmer in Xinzo, who expects to reach 90% before the predicted rainfall on Thursday.
In areas like the Laguna Antela, flooding has made access difficult, adding complexity to the process and potentially impacting the yield if weather conditions do not improve.
In Coristanco (La Coruña), a local farmer states that the persistent humidity has slowed down work, estimating that they would need at least five days of good weather to finish. Although the harvest is progressing slowly, the terrain and mild temperatures have prevented damage from rotting. He estimates completing about 80% of the harvest.
Additionally, potato farmers in A Limia (Ourense) are expected to receive an advance payment of the CAP subsidies in early November, a month earlier than usual, with an allocation of 45 million euros, according to local media.
