Citrus production in Chile less severely affected than expected
MD
The cold weather that hit the country will have a less impact than initially expected on production.
After thorough review of damage, estimates show an estimated loss of 10% of projected exports of navel oranges and lemons, and a loss of 10% in exports of mandarin.
Projected exports this year would exceed 10% of the volume of 2010 according to the Chilean Committee of citrus. As losses offsetting the expected increase, the volumes should be similar to last season.
Chile is the first exporter of fresh fruit in the Southern Hemisphere by exporting over 75 different varieties in over 100 countries.
